Worked example · Updated

Work through a five-meter example
Start with 5 meters. Divide 5 by 0.3048 to obtain 16.404199475… feet. Rounded to six decimal places, the result is 16.404199 feet. Keep more digits for intermediate calculations and round only the final answer.
To verify the direction, multiply the foot value by 0.3048. It should return approximately 5 meters, with any small difference caused by rounding.
Decimal feet are not feet and inches
The decimal part of a foot is a fraction of 12 inches. For example, 5.5 feet means 5 feet and 6 inches, not 5 feet and 5 inches. To split a result, take its whole feet and multiply the remaining fraction by 12.
Use the converter
The linked converter starts at 5 meters with feet as the target. Change the amount if needed and press Convert. Opening the tool or changing its inputs does not automatically reveal a calculated result.
Do not use the length factor for area or volume. Square feet require the factor squared, and cubic feet require the factor cubed.
